Starcraft 2
So I have been playing Starcraft 2 for the last week. I have to say it is fraken sweet. Due to using a laptop where my video card shares memory with the rest of the system I had to turn the graphics all they way down so it’s not as awesome looking as it should be. I should note that my system will let me play with all the bells and whistles turned on it just runs slower than a snails pace. Even with everything turned down and all background programs turned off I still get messages that I need to free up some resources to improve game play. My system is a AMD64 dual core with 2gb ram, windows 7 Intel integrated video and a 4gb flash drive used for Ready Boost (don’t think this really helps much).
So far I am 6 missions in and love how the missions are not linear after the first couple missions you can pick and choose the order you do them in. Then there are the base, unit and research upgrades in between missions in addition to the standard upgrades during the missions. Also I have already gotten at least 4 new units and I have barely scratched the surface of the game so far.
In between missions you go back to your ship where you can spend money and research points that you earn on missions. You can also speak with some of your crew, hire mercenaries in the cantina and watch news clips about your current exploits.
During the missions you can find Zerg or Protoss research points. Once back on your ship the points can be used to purchase unique defensive or offensive upgrades for some of your units and buildings. The only downside is if you purchase an offensive upgrade you you can not get the corresponding defensive upgrade. So make sure you pick your upgrades wisely.
